Im with you Andras, every time I drive my 78Sc its totally exhilerating!
The road feel, the view of the rushing pavement, and that growling boxer 6 sound,

I could purchase and have driven a new 996 and it did nothing for me I was very dissappointed, it was like driving a Lexus way too quiet and smooth, the interior looked like a Taurus or GM car, and it felt less nimble, a 993 was much better but was heavier and had less torque due to the weight, a nice car but not worth 2.5 x the price of my SC not even close

I'm right there with you, folks - I took my 86 Targa on a 120-mile trip this weekend (each way) and had a great time. Actually...the high-performance figure really helped me out, considering how late of a start I got out of Cincinnati...I was headed for downtown Columbus. I made the trip in an hour and a half...and topped out around 140 on the highway for a brief sprint. It was still accelerating, but I didn't want to push my luck. Plus it was really loud. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif

So the 240 mile trip was awesome - the weather was beautiful, and the car performed as if that was just another day in the life of a 911.

Mark:

Next time you come up to Columbus, you ought to give us a call and stop for dinner. The old Hungarian hospitality is alive and well in Columbus. And we do cook Hungarian - authentic Hungarian, not that stuff that they call Hungarian goulash in restaurants, which is really spelled "guyas" with an accent over the "a".

Anyway, to get back to Porsche topics, the 911 SC is indeed a wonderful car - it starts when it should, it stops like gangbusters (even with the stock brakes) and it can reach 139 MPH (its top speed from the factory), every day, all day. However, without a proper oil cooler, you wouldn't want to sustain that speed for any length of time. The trombone will not do it.

So crank up the radar detectors, and enjoy the fresh Spring air.......Andras

Has anyone raced a boxster (sports car) of today. My 82 sc with minimal enhancement will outrun the newest porshe model. It's not much to a Corvette or a Mustang, but I don't have a governor that kicks in at 110 mph either. "Go" old high performance.

Andras, I'll be up there in Columbus for a videogame tournament (really!) the weekend of April 29th. I might be able to drive the 911...depends on how showery it is on Friday.
