MFI Pump

I recently noticed that the belt on my mechanical fuel injection pump is really loose. In fact I am amazed that it does not slip or jump time at high rpms. There are 4 studs with nuts holding it down, and from what I can tell the only lateral adjustment comes from the oblong bolt holes in the base of the pump.

Does anyone have any good ideas or experience in reaching the two lefthand nuts, and more importantly how to put the pump/belt under enough tension to tighten things up?

Thanks for all the great tips and making this site what it is!

Well, I've changed that belt with the engine in the car, which involved taking two or three piece of engine sheetmetal off ... in any case I didn't have any trouble timing the belt or tensioning it, either ... if you don't know when the belt was changed last, why not just put a new one on and go through the whole routine? Haynes has enough pictures and info to do the job.
