help deciphering my engine #

i recently bought a project car (77 carrera)that the PO had been converting into a 964 look.
the PO had droped a fully rebuilt 3.2 liter enginge in the car just prior to my buying it.
I intend to use the car for another project and was going to sell the engine however my mechanic has suggested that i put the engine in my 79 SC Targa.
I know that the engine will fit however depending on the year of the 3.2 i will need to do other modifications.
if its an 84 its pretty much a straight swap of the engine ignition unit & motronic with some wiring changes.
if it is 85 or 86 then i will need to change axels and flywheel.
the engine number is 63E06846.
can anyone tell me the year model ?

thanks

My model year for an 89 911 Carrera is K so working backward on the alphabet to E I get 1983. Does that sound right? I think that a 83 motor could be installed in a 84 car so I would think it is an 84 3.2.

Pazz, your 63E----- engine number indicates that it was originally installed in an '84
3.2 Carrera. Incidentally, the new G50 transmission & larger clutch wasn't introduced until the start of the 'H' series
models in '87.
