901 Trans stuck in gear

Anyone ever run across this problem? I have a '70 911E. I pulled up to a stop sign and the shifter wouldn't pull back out of 4th gear. I frantically jiggled it and eased the clutch in & out and it momentarily slipped out of 4th and into reverse!!! Stuck again, only permanantly this time. Glad I took my cell phone along.

Yes, a long time ago a friend had a 914 get stuck in in 5th gear. It was dry ... no gear oil had been put in after having been drained for service at a dealership in Dallas. I filled it back up with gear oil, towed the car up to about 50 mph with a rope and released. The engine was started by compression after the clutch was let out ... he ran it up to top speed and ran it that way for about two miles, then the gear came unstuck, and no further shifting problems occurred!

So, you might want to check for low gear oil!
