question on projector foglights
I know most people don't like the projector foglightslook but I shoot anyway.
Has anyone experience one of these projector foglights, below link? My most concern is the lighting visibility. I guess I don't have good eyes. How is the light visibility compare to stock foglight? http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ItemBrowse/c-10101/s-10101/p-100000151315/mediaCode-ZX/appId-100000151315/Pr-p_CATENTRY_ID:100000151315 The reason why I need smaller foglight is because the stock OEM foglight is barely fit into the after market front lip. I can not adjust the light at all. ![]()

I have yet to find a fog light that helps enough to make any noticeable difference in the view out the front of the car. If you want to see better get some H1 or H4 lights and aim them correctly.
Back to the foglight. I once used one of these as a headlight for a motorcycle. It was more for legality (I had to have a light) than any practical use. It worked better than on a car because it was mounted higher. A waste of your money in my opinion. Looks a little to ricey for my tastes too. JR |

To me, I don't really think it's ricey but rather too "modern" for our car. It would look better on those new cars.
The reason I am turning into one of these is because the foglight mount for my car is too small. The stock foglight is barely sug in there and stay tight, no adjustment can be made. It is just for the look right now. I need something fit in there and can give me the visibility on the road. I have never seen any foglight, specially small) with anything beside H3. Has anyone? Thanks for input. I won't buy this one.

Keep looking, I'm sure there is something out there. And keep us posted please. I live in a rural area and I like the idea of replacing my fogs with something to give a little more light as well. Although something looking as close to stock is important to me. Especially after totalling my daily driver last month when a deer jumped out from the ditch... :-(

Eric,
I checked it out and found AJ-USA PIAA On-line Store projector fog lights are also using H3. I have never seen any foglight using H4 or H1. And AJ-USA PIAA is expensive. I found some using H7 and H9, pricey too, and not sue it will work. Will ahve to think about it some more. Check this out: http://www.rallylights.com/hella/90mm_modules.asp

My next-door neighbors hobby is four-wheeling with his Jeep. He has some cool-looking lights mounted that look much like our standard fogs. I'll ask him about them and any sources for lighting when he returns from his second home up north.

Do a search on my username and Hella 450. I installed them in my stock fog location and wired them so that they can be operated independently of the headlight circuit. I work shifts, so I drive a lot at night, and my commute is mostly dark backroads. The Hella 450's are 1-mile pencil beams that absolutely turn night into day.
here's a thread

After reading a number of threads, particularly some stuff that was posted by ZONAS, I bought some brand new Hella 450 driving lights from a Pelican member who did not like the way they mounted on his SC.....too low under the bumper. I fabbed up some aluminum brackets so they sit exactly the same as the stock fogs. I haven't aimed them properly yet, but I woke up some birds in the trees when I turned them on. The Hellas would mount much easier in a Carrera valence. As I recall, ZONAS also had a thread on the mounting procedure to the Carrera valence.

Zoanas, Steve,
You guys make me thought that I found a good foglight but after looking at the dimension, look like it won't fit into the bumper foglight holes. Do you mount it on the bumper without holes or inside the bumper holes for fog light? The factory light height is 3.5" and I can't adjudt it at all. It snug very tight. The dimension on this Hella 450 is 3.5 (maybe doesn't count the mount yet). There is no way it can go into my foglight holes. BTW, just curious, you guys got the pencil light (driving light) not the foglight. It will be narrow and far instead of short and spread out. So look like you have 4 headlights, instead of 2 headlight and 2 foglight. Am I correct? Has anyone try the Hella 450 foglight? Did you get ![]() OR this

Rnln,
The thread that Zonas directed you to is pretty comprehensive if you have a Carrera with the valence that incorporates foglights. If you're looking to see farther down the road, you don't want foglights. The beam is short and wide. You can also rewire the headlights at the fuse panel (European style) in order to use your auxilliary lighting with only parking lights and no headlights. There is no non-Porsche auxilliary lighting that's going to mount up directly without a certain amount of modification on your part. Steve

Steve,
Thanks for shreading the light. I won't do any more search. I didn't see the Zoanas thread with pictures when I search, now I saw the link. The holes on my aftermaket pumper is smaller than the stock holes, this is why my stock foglights don't fit well. Regarding European style, on my car it's already made that way. When the parking light is on, foglight is on. The second turn of the knob, headlights come on in addition to parking light and foglight. Now I need to go to the store to measure the hella 450 light to make sure if I can modify the pumpers to fit them in, with the capability for adjustment. Thanks. Another curiosity, since you are using the Hella 450 driving light (not foglight). Do you align them the same range as your headlights? How do them compare to headlight, regarding the lighting visibility?

Rnln,
I haven't properly aimed them yet, but as I said, they really lit up an area in front of the car....one light being too high and one being off to the left. As far as aiming, you'll have to get into the dark and experiment. My plan is to aim them to where I'm comfortable with the line of sight they provide, keeping in mind to keep the driver's side light from blinding an oncoming car in case I don't flip them off as quickly as I should have. Zonas' are dialed in and he seems to be happy with them. Keep in mind, however, that a driving light mounted that low on a car (under the bumper) will not provide the maximum light. If you notice, dedicated driving lights are mounted at grille height and above the bumper, or in the case of true off roaders/rally cars, mounted on the roof or rollbar. I live in the city, so I really very seldom have use for a driving light. But, as the eyes get a little older, some assistance is nice for those few times that I find myself out in the country (suburbs). Steve

I aligned mine to throw the pencil beams way down the road, and a little towards the side of the road. My headlight high beams take care of the middle of the road. I wired them to come on with high beams or flashers, or the fog switch. What it does for me is it lights up the sides of the road so I can see animals creeping out of the bushes towards the road. It can blind someone in the oncoming lane, so be quick with the high beam lever.

Zoanas,
oh ok, so it is for your "high beam" puspose, not the normal driving head/fog light purpose. If you adjust it "way down the road", even though to the side, and it still can blind the oncomming direction, do you think it can be adjusted to be the normal light (without blinding others)? The reason I ask this question because I know there are light that is not legal on the street, which can not be adjusted to not blind other direction while having the light on the road. Thanks
