Question Can anyone identify this elevated hub steering wheel?

The owner claims that it came from a 1986 Carrera 3.2. And it looks like that except for the hub extension with the varying outside diameter. Does anybody recognize this?

Is the rubber hub cover the wrong size and therefore exposing a part of the spacer that you don't normally see?

Art,

That's not what an extended hub wheel is upposed to look like. I don't know what it is but it isn't factory. The one I showed you pictures of a few weeks back was from an '86. They all look about the same.

TRE Cup and javadog,

Thanks for the posts. The picture of the front makes it look like the same stock wheel that I have in my '85.

I think that the extension maybe custom made but the current owner claims that the P/N is 911.347.084.08 (09 VERL.). So maybe it is one of those "one off" parts that Porsche used to put in their cars.

Art,

The part number is stamped on the face of the wheel, so it will be the same stamping for a standard wheel and an extended-hub wheel. I'd guess it's a standard wheel with some sort of aftermarket/homemade spacer. I doubt Porsche had anything to do with it. I've never seen one like it. I've attached a photo of the spacer on a factory version, as a reminder of what you are seeking

javadog,

What is the purpose of the bracket that looks like it is held on by three phillips head bolts? I found a normal looking raised hub wheel (supposedly from an '87 turbo look) but it does not have that bracket.

This is it; I can't see the spacer in this picture but I've seen it other pictures.

Art,

The thing on the end is for canceling the turn signals. You can use the one from your standard wheel if the other wheel doesn't have one.

I bought one just like that a couple weeks ago, factory extended wheel, about 3/4" longer than my 89 wheel. I really liked it but the threads were not as good as I wanted and sent it back. Then I bought a NOS 930s wheel, have to put it on this weekend. Hope I like it.

BeyGon,

If you don't mind my asking:
Where did you get the factory extended wheel?
What color was it?
How much was it?
What condition was it in other than the threads?

I got that wheel from "Carsinc", it was $235 shipped, It was black and looked pretty good but had some threads undone and my 89 is a 44k mile car and I wanted something that looked just a little better.

BeyGon,

That is interesting because the wheel in the first picture is from "Carsinc".

What is the NOS 930s wheel? Is it OE? Is it extended hub?

Art, the wheel I got was about 3/4 out from the dash more than my stock wheel, it sure looked OE If I thought I could have put my wheel on that base I would have kept it.
The wheel I put on today is OE 930s. I really like it but can't make the horn work. Simple things.
I also bought a 1"+- spacer I thought would bolt to my stock wheel but can't make it work either. Good thing I bought this 930 wheel. I can get in and out much easier with it.
