Boxed Footwell sections

In the current Excellence (Oct. 2006 at p. 93) the article on the Martini striped RSR replica states that he welded in box sections for the footwells for added strength -- a factory trick used on cabriolets."

Can anyone explain where the welding is done exactly?

and how much torsional stiffness it adds?

As always pics or diagrams are golden....

... and Targa.

The factory installed addtitional sheet metal in the Targa and Cabriolet cars to stiffen the footwell area. The sheet metal is no longer available from Porsche. I have tried to get the parts for the same reason you ask about. See numbers 46 and 47 in the below picture. Number 41 is installed in coupes instead of 46 and 47.

Why is it that Porsche has quit re-stocking sheet metal for the pre '89 cars? It used to be that you could get parts for all years and models without any problems. Not any more.

Thanks; they'd rather sell us new cars... maybe the aftermarket has these sections?

Another question, does this explain the difference between Targa/Cabriolet and coupe floorboards?

Close. It installs to the floor, longitudinal, door hinge post, and front inner fender.

Also is the reason for different floor boards.
