My 69, Is It A 69? What Do You Think? (pic)
Ok I kind of wish that the 911/912 Forums would just be combined because NO ONE at all is ever in the 912 Forum. So once again I have come to my brothers for assistance.
I bought my 69 912 a few weeks ago and I just got a pic of it scanned in. The thing is the car has no kind of identification at all on it to be able to tell if the body is a 1969 or not. The title says it is but I am kind of wondering if thats true. So here is a picture of my 1969 912. If any of you guys can tell if it is a 69 by looking at the pic i would greatly apriciate it! Also please feel free to give me your opinions on the car! http://www.angelfire.com/ky2/ford/01side.jpg Thanks! |
Yep, that's an early-bumper, long-wheelbase car, and '69 was the only year the 912 had that gap between the torsion bar port cover and the wheel arch ...
Love the rollbar!!! Very nice car! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
You might want to get yourself a Technical Specifications book put out by Porsche (Performance @ Tweeks have them I think) for the 1969 912 series, especially before they go out of print.
This has all the specs you could would ever need on the car, plus the codes and ranges of serial numbers to indicate what vintage car you have. JW ------------------ |
Looks identical to body of my "69 911. If my memory serves correctly the "winged" push button door handles are fairly unique to this year model. Nice car!

It is my understanding that those door handles are from 68 or 69. The only thing that I can tell that is not 69 is the vent windows. Coupes had non-opening vents from 69-73. I can't see in the pic too well, but the 69 decklid grille has only 3 vertical straps. A 69 912 should have dual battery compartments but they were empty as the car used a single battery.

Thanks for all of the great compliments guys!
Both of those vent windows do open up. Hmmmm, for some reason I think that a previous owner has built this car from some other 912s or somthing. Right now there is only one battery in the car and it's on the drivers side. I will check to see if there is a place to put one on the passenger side as well. Someone seems to have invested a lot of money in this car. The entire floorpan has been replaced and then someone has built a full fiberglass skid plate to protect the underside of the car. The thing is I don't know much history on the car because I bought it from a used car lot and the used car lot bought it from a big auction. I did trace down the previous owner but he didn't know that much about it either, he had bought it off of another guy and built it up....but the last owner had no idea of what all had been done to it. And he didn't know how to get in touch with the guy he bought it from. But I've noticed a lot of modifications to the car. Both rear fenders are galvenized steel i don't think that was stock. It has the rollcage, it has Blue Koni shocks, dual Webers and a few more things. Overall I feel I got a pretty good deal for $2825. But only time will tell http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif |
For the money you appear to have got a real bargin!
I mean, just the single job of getting the entire undertray replaced with a new galvanised unit is probably cost more than what you paid for the car! It would be nice if you could give us the chassis number (front luggage compartment, passenger side, under the carpet) and the engine number to see if the numbers match. But even if they don't - for the money I'd say you've got as good as it gets! Well done! - roGER |
Not only are the rear fenders galvanized, but they are the RS/Carrera flared fenders! And, without a doubt, your car is a '69 or later chassis, since that is when the long wheelbase (89.3") cars were introduced. You definitely got a bargain, regardless of 'mixed' background ... someone did some very high quality bodywork on that car, and you have no concerns about long-term problems! Now, if you can just scrounge up a 911/83 engine to go with the flares!!! And, maybe some 6" and 7" Fuchs wheels!

roGERK: Thats the bad part http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/frown.gif both of the luggage compartment and chassis plates have been removed. The only number is on the motor, as soon as I get a chance I'll get it and post it here and maybe you guys can find out some stuff from it.
As for the RS/Carrerra flares, I'm glad to know that! I thought they where just stock fenders. I plan to add a ducktail spoiler soon so those fenders should look good with that! Also i guess the flares will allow me to use a little wider tires as well. Thanks for all the info guys, I'm even happier with the car than I was before! |
