Calling tall drivers!!! Fitting in a 911 with a helmet?!

Ok, so I'm 6'2", and I don't fit in my 911SC with a helmet on.
I know there have to be other tall drivers going to the track with similar issues. I don't want to destroy my pristine seat, or cut the seat rails or anything that will alter my car. Is there a seat available that will lower my seating position in the car with the original rails?
Or, does anyone know any other way around this height problem?

from what i have found the stock seats are pretty low as is. I went to race seats in my car and i am 6'5 and i hit my head WITHOUT a helmet so i am going to have the rails cut out and the brackets welded in.

I think you might be out of luck but i am wrong most of the time...

I just made new seat mounts for the same reason.
Maybe the race seats with the brackets that mount on the sides and have several different positions to mount them?

The issue is "not wanting to alter the car".

I have Recaro SRDs mounted with recaro sliders that are bolted through the floor. The seat is significantly lower than a stock seat. I'm only 6' but have tons of room with a helmet on. I could get it even lower if I went to a FRP or aluminum shelled racing seat.

Unless you have a stock, pristine 911 I don't see how drilling through the floorpan would hurt value or performance. Some of the older cars come with holes in the pan already.

Just remember that the mounting holes must be properly reinforced with backing plates to spread the load.

Good luck!

The stock "sport seats" can lower your seating position about 3" - 4" from the stock standard seats, depending on the condition of the foam, etc.

Recaro SEs, which are similar to the sport seats, can lower you a lot also.

I'm 6-4 and have an 82 sunroof car. I have been through the same thing you are looking at. I also won't make any changes to my car (permanant).
I have borrowed some seats from some friends even the side mounted sparcos. I have come to the conclustion I won't fit with a helmet. I had to move the wheel 3.5 inches out to fit well without the brain bucket.
If I need a helmet I drive the BMW.
JMO cut the seat tracks or track a different car.................sorry.

Someone else that is 6'3" mentioned the SRD's, but they said that they used the factory sliders. Do you have any pics of your seat installation? Also, forgive me for being forward, but how tall are you?

I have the SRD's and factory sliders, I have plenty of room at 6'1. I have no sunroof.

That is why I own a Targa. I have never sat in a non-sunroof coupe, but in sunroof equipped coupes and in Cabs my head always touches the roof without a helmet.

Ifot,

I am 6' even. I will try to get a picture of the mounts in the next couple of days. Here's a couple of pix for reference - best I can do right now.

I'm 6'4" and wasn't able to fit in a coupe. The Targa gives me headroom, even with a helmet.
