Gearshift knob

I want to replace my gearshift knob on my 89 carrera 3.2
I tried to unscrew counter clock wise but it would not turn.

I did not want to force it too much either.

Is there a nut that is lower on the lever that I have to loosen first?

As per the Bentley manual: For 87-89 models, gently pry cap from top of shift knob. Remove allen bolt holding knob in place. Remove knob.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Livi,

I tried gently removing the cap from the top of the shift knob, but it won't come out.

I guess after 17 years it has a mind of its own.

The cap is held in by three "arms" that spread out and grab the shifter. Here is a pic of the shifter withouth the knob. Sorry don't have one of the cap.
