shortening of G-50 transmission
Does anyone know of any other places that shorten G-50 bellhousings other than Patrick Motorsports?
Is this something easily handled by any quakified machine shop or is it very involved? I know the bellhousinng gets shortened but does the input shaft also get shortened or is it replaced with another part? Thanks for any info! Mike |

Is your bell housing the same thickness all the way back and not thinner as it goes back from the motor into the bell housing?
The reason that I ask is that I had a turbo 4-speed bell housing cut shorter and the machinist cut out the centering ring and cut it too short to boot (about .2 too short)Which caused an adapter to be made and it cost me a $400.00 starter ring gear that was stripped from incorrect starter alignment. The input shaft was also cut too short the same amount which created the need for a special pilot bearing holder. The whole thing really sucked and I still may have to deal with it again if the new adapter is just slightly off. (it will wear pilot bearings really fast.) Go with someone that has done a lot of them right. It is very costly (in $$ and in aggravation)if it is done wrong. Try power haus (or renegade might still be doing them) the centering ring is very important and the trans will have to be disasembled to cut the shaft. s |
