Dashboard replacement
Has anyone ever attempted to replace the dashboard in their car?
Mine was originally leather wrapped but 21 years of abuse has definately taken its toll. Not only have the seams split wide open but the actual dash is warped around the defroster vents. I have temporaraly installed one of thoose cheap plastic overlays. In brief dissussion it has been mentioned to me that replacing the dash "often" requires removing the glass. The key word here is "often". Does anyone know what that means? Is it a year by year, model by model, or each individual car problem? How is the dash even attached? Any tips would be appreciated. ------------------ Leland Pate ___79 SC Targa |
Leland,
Dashboard removal will require the removal of the glass. It can be done without removing the glass but you'll risk a slip, and possibly a broken glass. The dashboard is attached with bolts in the front, plastic pins on top, and retaining screws under the glass in front(back of dash). Get a 10mm, a sharp knife(to cut WS Seal), a phillips screwdriver, and a lot of patience and you should have no problems. Good luck with it. Rich |
