After market turbo for 88"911
Anyone know about the stageI turbo kit from protomotive Eng? Thinking about saving and spending some money. 360HP-375HP .5 bar would like to keep the car I have I know where its been.

You're gonna need to do some math. I don't know how much this kit will cost you but a 3.3T goes for about $5K (core) to $10K+ (fresh rebuild). My thoughts are that a 3.3T would be complete, made for the application, and easy to modify and find parts for. Turbo systems are compex, I wouldn't feel comfortable boosting a motor that wasn't specifically made for it. I have freinds who have supercharged SC's with mixed results. It is hard not to overboost (you know how the horsepower bug is), things can go bad very quickly. I am currently preparing a turbo motor for installation ito my SC. The differences in the two motors are many. The 3.3L is a stout item. They have been around and raced for more than 20 years so all will have been rebuilt and upgraded by now. You can pick up a complete used motor for $7-8K that checks out favorably for compression and leakdown and then spend another $2K to adapt it to your car (you'll have to spend that money anyway). At that point you have 300HP stock and can go another 50 or so HP easy before spending big bucks. The aftermarket sells everything imaginable for these things so when the HP bug bites again, and it will, you'll have somewhere to go. Boosting a 3.2L would not yeild these options.
Check this out: www.imagineauto.com Need to ad one thing - if you opt for a 3.3T you can also sell your 3.2L, subtracting $5K or so from the swap cost. You now have 300 reliable HP for around $4K out of pocket. [This message has been edited by RarlyL8 (edited 05-13-2000).] |
