Dash Speaker cover substitute
What have you seen used as a substitute for a speaker cover on the dash for the early cars that always seem to crack?

I made a small dash speaker enclosure out of fiberglass, which held two tweeters. I covered it with some standard black speaker cloth, that I think I got at Radioshack. It's used to make decent looking grills for custom speaker cabinets - usually it's acoustically invisible.
Unfortunately, I don't have any pics available, but I've started to grow tired of my enclosure design. However, speaker cloth could be a quick, and more importantly, inexpensive, solution for a badly cracked speaker grill. You wouldn't necessarily have to glue it onto the grill to see how it would look. You could just wrap it around the grill, tape it on the back, and snap it in place. If you don't like it, throw it away (the cloth that is, not the grill). |
