In-car video mount

I'm doing my first drivers' education event in my 911, and I thought it would be fun to put my video camera on some sort of mount so that I could learn a little more by reviewing my mistakes (and, I suppose, my good moments, too) after the fact.

Has anyone fabricated a video camera mounting system for an early 911? I have a fairly small Canon Elura. Any clues as to how this could be done? I expect it's going to have to pass muster with the tech inspection people.

In car videos are a real blast. I tried using a small hand-held video camera but after a couple of times gave up and put in a small "spy" camera and recorder. Several reasons for the small camera: wider field of vision, easier to start/stop recording and much cheaper. You can mount a camera to a harness bar if you have one that connects the seat belt mounts and is used for the 5 pt harness usually. I made a mount and used the top off an old tripod, but commercial ones are available for about $100 or so. Having some one try to hold a camera usually won't work since it counces around way too much. Good luck.

Jack - put a harness bar in your car. I picked one up at a swap meet for $50. Cheap safety and a dandy place for a camera mount. I made a mount out of aluminum stock and a muffler clamp. A foam rubber pipe insulator covers it up so it looks good. A friend of mine has a '00 Vette, we chase each other around some very desolate curvy roads on the weekends - what a BLAST. Reviewing the tapes is almost as fun as making them (just hope they're never used against us in court!).
