charging your battery
It was suggested that one good way to blow out you alternator-regulator is to charge your battery incorrectly. OK so what is the proper way besides pulling the whole thing out? SAME FOR JUMP STARTING?

Well, I have heard of that 'gremlin' or potential threat to alternators, but it has never happened to me! But to be safe just disconnect your battery ground strap(s) ... and charge away!!!

But, be aware that if you do disconnect your strap, then you will wipe out your radio presets, you will stop your electric clock, and you might have to "recharge" your alarm system. Warren may not have these items on his 1973, but if you do, then be aware and charge ahead. I keep my 1983 on a Battery Tender during the bitter winter months, and have never suffered any problems with charging. Also, on jump starts, read your manual carefully, don't cross-connect the wires, and always attach and disconnect your battery first, then the "host" charger, etc......Andras |
