3 pin Permatune with stock coil?
I heard something today that's got me wondering. I have a '71 911T that had an older Permatune ignition installed years ago. The car still has it's original coil that accompanied the Marelli points distributor.
Someone told me today that he thought the 3-pin Permatune systems should have been accompanied by an upgraded coil rather than run with the factory coil. Can anyone confirm or deny this? |

If it runs good...who cares?
BTW, the permatune is a cheap replacement for the Bosch CDI....

Good point Mike. I don't know if it would harm anything over time or what the issues are. Electricity is a complete mystery to me anyway. So, obviously you prefer the Bosch CDI. What's the advantage?
By the way. Thanks for those lower side P O R S C H E decals. I can hardly wait to install them! |

Stock CDI units from Bosch are perfectly designed for the application. Permatunes are used as cheap replacements. They are nicknamed Permacrap....they are not serviceable when they do crap out while the Bosch units can be fixed....if yours has lasted this long you got a good one. They don't have the best rep.
And thanks for the order on the side scripts...post a pic when they get installed.
