Fabspeed Muffler Delete

Hey guys, had to share... I just put a Fabspeed muffler delete on my 3.2 Carrera and the results are should we say... earth shattering. I had no idea that my car could produce such a deep throaty exhaust note. It sounds absolutely monstrous when I get on the gas. I don't know yet if I'll leave it this way, but it does sound like it means business now. I saved around 40lbs when I removed the orginal canoe of a muffler. Throttle response appears to be quicker, more blippy. Could be the placebo effect though. If you've never heard your cars exhaust note free from a muffler, you really got to try it. It's awesome!

I came THIS close to putting a muffler bypass on my SC, but then before doing so I decided that going from stock SC headers to SSI equal length was a better idea for my engine, coupled with an M&K 2-1 muffler. I presume I'll get nicer noise with that setup than with my current Fabspeed cat-bypass and Dansk. I can't wait to hear (and more importantly, feel) it next week.

My exhaust has been bone stock up till this point. Thought this would be a nice little $50 experiment to play around with before deciding where to spend the big money.

Nice to hear from another North Carolinian! I used to live off Lynn Rd and worked as a consultant near Umstead Park.

Cheers!

I live 6 blocks from Target between Lynn and Millbrook.

What are the inspection rules in Guilford County ? As of 1/06 Wake County said no more sniff test for pre-OBD II cars, so my cat went buhbye replaced by a Fabspeed cat-bypass and a Dansk sport muffler. I liked the improvement so much I kept reading that SSIs will really wake up my SC even more (supposedly more than they would wake up a 3.2). Lose your cat if you can, that really helps too....

You're not the fellow that was selling a white 3.2 early last summer that I came up and test-drove are you ?

Please excuse the newby question: What is a 'Fabspeed muffler delete'? Are you referring to a cat-bypass?

Thanks.

Eric

It's a straight pipe coming right off the cat, cat-bypass or premuffler (whichever you have). It basically deletes the muffler.

I do have to admit I did start my car once when I had the muffler off and drove it around the block. It does sound cool, but if i'm not mistaken the motor does need a little back pressure. Am I right?

Eric-325I 09-08-2006 11:51 AM

I see, thanks for the clarification/education.

I removed my cat and replaced with a cat-bypass, the rest is the stock SC headers and Bischoff muffler. I could not believe how much louder it was with just the loss of the cat... I can't imagine my neighbors liking my 911 with no muffler at all... Although I'd probably love it.

I'm either going to go SSI or straight headers into an M@K eventually...

Get out! I actually lived across from the Target/Movie theatre in that new apartment complex. I could walk across the street to it. Small world, eh?

No, wasn't me on the white porsche.

Sniff rules are the same in GSO, as of 1/06 none for pre odb II.

I have the same set up on my 80SC-cat bypass with the muffler by pass pipe.
Amazing how loud and throaty, especially when i'm at 4500rpm, i love the way it pops during down shifting.

Glewis...you lost both the cat AND the muffler? Wow, I bet that really shakes the ground when you drive by.

Eric, I considered straight headers but then I'd lose my interior heat, if it were a track car, then would do that. So it's SSIs next week. I'm sure I'll get a nicer noise with SSIs and the M&K 2-1 (I thought about 2-2 but don't want to cut the valance). I can't wait to feel the difference with my butt-dyno.
When I had a 996 C4S I removed the mufflers and ran pipes straight off the cats to Fabspeed tips. Sounded like a Cup car, it was glorious (especially at full song on track, I got black-flagged at Road Atlanta during quiet hour ;-)

Troy, LOSE THAT CAT ! ;-) Yes, it's a very small world.

Ya it is a blast. after a while it does tend to resonate aroung 3200rpm. i'm going to the track tomorrow i'll try to get a video/sound bite. my wife hates it though!!

Yeah... my wife drives an 05 GT Mustang and she's used to a little noise, but she came running outside when I fired the 3.2 up for the first time with the muff delete. Hehe... I told her I could wake the dead too.

DB-NC I would love to hear the MK muffler as I have been considering one for some time. Send me a private message if you ever have some time available. I live on the north side of town. Thanks.

TroyGT 09-13-2006 07:12 PM

I don't know... I've been driving with this thing on for several days now and, while I love the way it sounds, in the parking deck and around town I do get a lot of attention. I can't tell if the attention is, wow that sounds good or wow that sounds stupid on a porsche. I'm starting to consider a Magnaflow... but I wanted to give a good road test before I made up my mind. It puts a smile on my face everytime that I get in the car. I don't know... I'm torn.

I've got a Fabspeed premuffler and a GHL single in/out and love the way my car sounds. It's plently loud enough and sounds great...but imo not obnoxious in any way, and with no resonance. If my neighbors start complaining about the 911....I'll just fire up the Harley so I can't hear them anymore. Just kidding...maybe :)

mschuep 09-14-2006 07:57 AM

FWIW, I rotate back and forth between the cat bypass with muffler bypass, and the cat bypass with stock muffler...Stock muffler is really a pretty good muffler IMO, and if I want it loud I throw on the $50 bypass. Doesn't take much time at all to swap.

mb911 09-14-2006 07:59 AM

they charge 50 for that?? I should make those as well

JRISER 09-14-2006 08:26 AM
