Does anyone know what this does? (airbox attachment)
Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone knew the functionality of the item circled below, looks like an oil overfill/misting drain valve from the airbox, strange thing is that PET only lists it for carb’d engines but I have seen it on CIS engine up to ‘77, my C3 engine doesnt have one, but has an opening under the airbox) and I’m almost certain it's is the reason for the oil misting I’m getting at the back of my airbox, does anyone know what it is? Many thanks in advance Darren http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1157755871.jpg |
Looks like part of the PCV system for blowby.

i think it provides the vacuum for the charcoal canister recirculation

You're showing a '70-71 MFI air box. My '71 did not have a connection like that near the oil tank. The charcoal cannister on mine was "powered" by a hose on the fan shroud and the return went into a combo fitting at the front (away from view) side of the air box in conjunction with the large hose from the oil tank.
Lemme see what PET says. OK, I misunderstood the drawing and thought you were showing a connection on the right side. Your mystery part seems to connect to the bottom of the box where the oil collects. I never saw exactly where the other end went, but I assume it went into the breather. I have a '73 motor on a stand, and I don't seem to have much in the way of a valve before or on it either. Sorry I wasn't more help. |
sure it's not the recepticle for the purging line from the canister into the air filter?. maybe the flame arrester assy on the vacuum side of the oil tank breather?

a drain from the air filter unit. mounts outside the tin over the oil cooler and a hose runs from it to the bottom of the air filter unit. gets rid of oil that collects in the air filter unit from blowby or overfilling, and drops it onto the hot exhaust so smoke comes out the wheel wells.
