Trunk Light not working

The trunk light on my 83 SC does not work which is not surprising since the brown wire from the lamp holder is not connected to anything. See picture. It appears to have been connected to a connector, but I see nothing missing or out of line.

Where does this wire go? Grounded to the body close by or into a connector, neither?

Many thanks - Chris

Chris,

I am not an expert on this and haven't yet looked at how mine is connected, but the ground wire should be connected to the "button" that pops up when the trunk is open so I would guess that it should be attached to a connector some where. If you ground it to the body, the light would be on all the time. I am basing this on the assumption the trunk light works like the interior lights--switched on by the ground wire. I'm sure others will chime in soon, but maybe begin a hunt for a ground wire hanging loose (or possibly tucked back into the sheet metal)

Good luck,
Larry

Chris,

I just checked the wiring on my 75 which may be like yours. The ground wire connects to the button which is almost hidden behind the trunk hinge mount. Hope this helps.

Larry is right, the brown wire is the earth which connected to a push switch, the same as the one in the door A posts which turn the interior lights on when the door is opened. There will be a small hole in the hinge/bonnet, pull the earth through and connect to the push switch then screw it in.

Here are some pics which may help

Thanks

Alan
