Factory short shift
Hello everyone...I am new to the board. I own a 1973 911T that recently received a 2.7 carerra rs conversion, new batteries, new starter, new clutch, fuel pump, rebuilt mfi, rebored throttle bodies, new exhaust, and a bunch of other things. Anyway, here is my question...I just bought a 911 factory short shift kit from performance products. Anyway, the part that was included in the kit, called the "fork" has a lateral pivot hole that can be either above or below the fore and aft pivot hole(when rotated clockwise). I assume that the lateral hole should be above the fore/aft pivot hole, but when the new handle was installed this way, the ball on the end of the handle would not reach the cup that holds the ball cup bushing. I thought, maybe I have this backwards, so I rotated the fork so that the lateral pivot holes are below the fore/aft pivot holes. I re-installed the shift handle, but this time the 5th and reverse "hook" on the side of the shifter was too low and was banging into the side of the plate that contains the reverse lockout mechanism. I phoned performance products, and the person that I talked to is supposed to get back with me today, but I think she is going to tell me that the kit is supposed to work. I know for a fact that the kit will not work on my car. Has anyone experienced this same problem? Did any internal shifter parts change in 1974? The height of the cup perhaps? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |
