washer pump 87-911
I recently replaced windshield washer pump in the silicon reservoir tank. I have washer working on the headlamps, but not on the windshield. Is there two pumps for the washer system? 87-911Andy Last edited by alatahoe; 09-09-2006 at 10:15 AM.. |

What year car are we talking about?
Should be two pumps since the headlight washer don't come on until the headlights are on. |

The pump which is pressed into the washer tank is a high pressure pump for the head lights. The pump for the windshield is mounted in the luggage compartment in front of the battery together with the washer relay.

Yep, the pump for the windshield on an '87 isn't inside anything. It's in the "trunk" near the battery. I wouldn't replace it if I were you. You can easily take it apart and clean it, and run some wire to the battery to see if the motor works.
Most likely the problem are the valves. up under the windshield if you follow the hose there are two pieces of plastic that look like an "L" and a "T". Those have a valve in them. Those valves get dirty and stuck. Replace the valves. They are about $3 each if I remember correctly. Chances are replacing those valves and cleaning the motor will get it working again.
