Interior face lift question

My 85 Carrera is in good shape inside and out. It has been repainted but that part was done right. The leather inside is ok. A little cracked and dry. Since the car has been painted it's not original anymore. Along with changing the leather seat covers to new ones a friend of mine who does awesome upholstery work suggested to do some small accents with either burl wood or maybe carbon fiber on the door panels and dash. I can pretty much have him create anything I want. For example an inset Carrera logo in the door panel. That kind of stuff. If it were done with a little class not to blingish would it detract from the value of the car?

Stock as possible is going to appeal to more buyers. Other than that, it's a matter of taste. Personally, I don't think burl wood should be in the same time zone of an 85 Carrera and carbon fiber belongs on a CGT, but that's just my opinion. It's your thing, do what you want to do.

That's kind of what I was thinking. It is tempting because I can get whatever I want done for my personal car done for a really low price. I guess I'll just concentrate on the leather and maybe get the led light upgrade for the gages.

My car was repainted 2 years ago and done properly. It has a 930s center console with 2 extra gauges. New stock door panels are getting installed shortly. I still need to figure out what to do with the dash top. I would like to get one of those glass fiber ones that never warps or cracks

I think the future buyer would much rather get a nicely repainted car than one with scratched and faded original paint. I mostly agree on keeping the interior stock.

The gauge lighting is not the best to start with. Red lighting etc. is only going to weaken the readability. White dials look good in some cars but that again is a matter of opinion.

I think you'll get more back by upgrading mechanicals than interior work, although a really good sound system can be a persuasive selling point. Of course, there's a 180 viewpoint on this issue and I've seen highly-modified, non-stock 'performance' 911s of that vintage go for big bucks, too. Seems like the 911s that get 'blinged out' with frivolous interior and body details are just fodder for ridicule when they appear on ebay.
