Help: Would you buy this car ?
![]() I have a possible decent deal on an early car, but this lip under the hood appears to be thoroughly rusted out... Is that a sign of more nastiness ? I have never seen them rusted at this spot before... The rest of the car appears solid... How bad a fix do you think that is ? Weird spot, no ? |

Greg,
That is probably just the tip of the rust iceberg! That looks like an incomplete earlier attempt at some kind of repair ... the reason it looks so strange is that it is an un-natural occurence! It would have to be a giveaway price to even be interesting as a parts car ... you will lose every penny put into that project, IMHO!

Ive seen more than one get rust in that spot. If the rest of the car looks solid it may not be as bad as one would think. Do you know where to look for rust ? Dont use the outer/painted body panels as a reference. Look everywhere underneath and in the door jams. Do a search if you have no experience with 911 rust.

Thanks guys... Further pictures revealed a lack of torsion bar cover - it's completely covered over by bondo, I guess... Lots of other weird issues that make this car questionable. I'll pass, I've already bought one fright pig, I'm trying to avoid repeating that !

Greg,
Good call. I bought a rusty POS and had to sell it it at a loss. The rust spreads and it's a mess to fix. Look for a car from a non-rust belt region.

Is it a decent parts car ? If your passing why not give the location and price ? What model year is it ? 66/67 ? If its a 911 the engine core is worth a few bucks. Maybe it has a wood steering wheel ?

Because it's not priced as a parts car I doubt anyone would want to pay $8900 for a 912 that has all those body issues and a nasty looking engine... I thought it was a favor to not say anything about it ;-) But if you have all that money to burn, look for it on collectors car trader online - 912 at $8900 in FL and you will find it... Don;t forget the tetanus shot ! ;-) |

Yea that one will be for sale for a while. I guess it was a favor not mentioning it.
