Pelican Parts Forums - 911 Int Door Handle broke on test drive

Hi,

I test drove an 88 Cab yesterday and we were stopped at a gas station because we were low on gas. I was in the driver seat, and I tried to get out, because the seller/owner (my passenger) was already filling up the gas tank (through the hood). He said to pull on the handle at the bottom of the door handle, and I did, but the car was locked, and the metal handle thing that flips back, came toward me, but the door didn't open. The guy said to use the round circle knob thing in the middle to unlock (can't remember if I pushed that or not), but in any case by that time he had opened the door from the outside by then. I was able to push the interior door handle back to its default position, but now when you pull on it, the handle comes (flips) toward you, but nothing happens! (e.g. it is disconnected from the interior door mechanism). The guy noticed, and I said "that just happened" and he said oh, ok he'll have to see it later and wasn't too concerned - he continued to show me the car (and even the nice electric top).

I called him today to say that I can't buy the car (even though its an awesome deal-we just can't take out a loan right now) and I asked about the door handle. He confirmed that when he drove home, that it was indeed broken. He said he isn't worried about it (as far as my responsibilities are concerned), unless it were to cost above $200 to fix-he will just take it to his mechanic. I said I'd also check on the internet (with you guys) and see if there is a simple fix.

BTW he says that he has several other offers and his price is very low for a G50 cab and so this car may indeed sell quickly, and I have a friend that is like 3rd line to view the car next (he's busy with relatives today).

I need to ask --
1) is this an easy fix that I can tell him?
2) is it a little more complicated but something I can do?
3) if not, what would this normally cost?
4) what is appropriate in this situation. Instead of paying for the repair I might be able to help him market it to get a higher selling price (e.g. post his add on Pelican etc if my other friend decides not to buy it.--he is not particularly computer savy himself). I also ran a carfax that checked out and I can give him that, he didn't know what his own carfax was saying -I was telling him that the last owner had repaired the oxygen sensors (his only records are his own for oil changes).
