Need help with the name of the color and the paint code. Went to paint scratch but they don't show it. Car is a 76 carrera 3.0 Thanks for the help.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1157924537.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1157924592.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1157924624.jpg

What does the paint code plate inside the driver's door jam show?

Tag was removed long ago before the car came over from Germany.

If you search a bit I think you'll confirm what I'm saying but your best bet is to take the car to a good local body shop that can match your paint exactly and make you up a pint. It won't cost much more than what you get from Paintscratch.com and it should be a spot on match.

The problem with the Paintscratch.com route is that older formulations tend not to match for whatever reason and add to that the impact of fading over the years and the problem only gets worse. I found this to be especially true for the less common metallics.

I have an original '84 kiln red car and the color from Paintscratch.com as well as the formulation my body shop mixed just based on the color code was way off. Not even close. When the body shop matched the paint directly to the car the match was perfect. Good luck. Just trying to save you a bit of frustration.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not actually looking to do any touch up work on the car right now just wanted to know what the color was called and have the code to make up a new door tag.

The second pic looks a lot like Meteor Metallic.

Thanks I think I have the codefor that color handy. Anyone else want to trow in there $.02

Probably not original paint, then, since the tag was removed!

Lots of possibilities ... among the later period Porsche shades/codes, here are two 1981 shades from the factory service manual:

655 - Metallic Platinum

956 - Metallic Pewter

I'm sure that most of the car is still the original paint from the factory but the drivers door looks to have been redone at some point. But then again maybe the door is a redo of a complete repaint.

Looks kind of like L693, Stone Grey Metallic, which happens to be my car's color. But I have no idea if that color was used in 1976.
