Clutch Cable adjust...
Hello: In adjusting my cable, I have tightened the cable adjusting nut to its farthest limit to get the 1.0mm at the adjusting lever/bolt. However, the aux spring C-spring is not compressed enough and actually touches the heat exchanger when clutch is released. It seems I need to take up more cable slack on the pedal end so that I am not at the limit on the cable nut and can get enough thread on the cable to adjust the C-spring in a bit. I need just a very small amount of adjust to pull the spring in a bit. How do you adjust at the pedal ??? Also, with the adjust at 1.0mm the clutch seems to grab a bit higher up than it used to. Does making the 1.0mm larger make the clutch grab lower on the pedal..or how do I make the clutch engage lower on the pedal.. Thanks for any help... |

Well, you don't want to adjust it to "bite" too low, because the pressure from the pressure plate returns the pedal far enough to 'snap' the c-spring back to full return. Otherwise, the c-spring will be constantly puting pressure on the clutch, like driving with the pedal p[artly depressed.
Wht a screwdriver, force the big arm back so it does 'snap' to full return. This puts the arm against the exhaust crossover pipe. Then, when I adjust to 1.2mm, the big arm is pulled away from the exhaust pipe. If, before installin the clutch cable, when the arm is in full return, the little arm is too close, then maybe the litle arm is on the wrong splines and shoudl be moved. This shouldn't happen. though, I don't think. Perhaps the release fork is bent. ------------------ '83 SC |
