Limited slip question
A newbie question: what are the specific advantages of limited slip? What are the drawbacks?

The drawbacks as I see them are they cost money (some are lots of $$$$), they can wear out or fail as any mechanical part can and they change the way the car corners i.e. make them push more. The advantage is on tight turns the inside drive wheel will not spin, so the outside wheel will get the power and that can be worth several seconds or more at an auto-x. Once a limited slip or Quaife unit is installed and the car setup for it, the results can be well worth the time and $$$.

The biggest disadvantage for me is dirving in the wet. The scariest experience i've had driving my '82 930 was in the rain when I applied too much throttle-the turbo kicked in-and I was instantly spinning in a circle. As you know when one wheel starts to slip, power is applied to the other-not a good thing in the wet.
