915 shifter shudder on takeoff.
If I don't get the clutch/revs just right on takeoff my shifter shudders, some times quite badly on my 78SC. Other than this my trusty 915 gearbox shifts nicely as long as I don't rush anything.
Can I keep dricing it this way for a while? A $1500 clutch job is not really in the budget right now. This is my weekend toy, not a daily driver. Ulrich |

Check your bowden tube or motor mounts. Search and you will find.
Maybe a need to replace your clutch cable. Worst case, a new clutch and / or flywheel, hopefully not. Doug

As Doug suggests. Also may be a leaking input shaft oil seal. Oil on the clutch facings will cause symptoms like this too. See any oil under the flywheel housing of the gearbox?

My car had this problem too at 92k. I figured the problem was clutch related since there was no record of it being replaced. I have owned the car for the past 9 years, since 60k.
I replaced the clutch last winter. The job was actually pretty easy. The parts cost was about $500. I also replaced a number of gaskets, op switch, shocks and repacked cv's. I think the throw out bearing shaft was binding because the clutch was much harder to actuate. Now it's nice and smooth with no shuddering whatsoever. It was amazing to me how much grime and dirt had built up on the engine. All of that is now cleaned up. I'm pretty sure a shop would have required a sum of 2x$1,500 for everything that I did. jt -84 targa |
