Best Car Wax
OK I'm planning a major exterior detailing on my car. When the car is clean and ready for waxing what should I use?
The car is a red 85 Carrera coupe with front and rear spoilers. What's best for the rear rubber lip? Also, it has chrome center Fuchs. What should I use to polish these? The paint is in pretty good condition. Although the driver's door oxidizes faster than the rest of the car. I assume that it was repianted some time before I owned it. I'm not afraid of putting time, money, and muscle into this job. I'm looking for the best results. Thanks for your guy's input. JP |

JP,
I can't help you on the paint, but I know for a fact that Black Chrome will do wonders on your rubber parts. I've posted the same question about this...see http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/Forum3/HTML/001142.html Also I think for your Fuchs I've heard that Mother's brand is pretty good. ------------------ Jeff 1976 911S |

I've used Black Chrome and agree it is excellent on rubber trim parts. Consumer Reports just recently (last month or so) evaluated car waxes. the stuff (Zymol I think) sold for Porsches performed the best, but was more expensive. Best SHINE of them all, they said, and easy to use.

Superman,
I have to agree with you...Zymol is really good but expensive...I haven't used it on my Porsche but my sister waxes her Jetta with it...the stuff smells good, too. Allan, I've had the same problems. My friend found them at NAPA, but I finally found it at the closest Navy Exchange. If you like you can send me $6 and I can send you a 10 oz bottle. From what I've seen this stuff isn't very cheap..I got mines for $4.xx for a 8 oz. bottle. Just email me if interested. ------------------ Jeff 1976 911S |

Well the best wax I have found for the price is Pinnacle Souveran. I use it on all of my vehicles and it is awesome!
You can check it out at: http://www.properautocare.com/pin-312.html Later Dustin 69 912 72 OPEL GT 93 FORD F-150 (Highly Modded) |

From what I have been able to tell with
Porches, Zymol would be your best bet however, it's not easily obtainable. The other waxes mentioned are also good there again, not easily aquired.I've had outstanding results using Mothers "system" waxes. Fairly easy to get, Pep boys has it, the system is the wash, the cleaner wax, the sealer/glaze, and the paste carnuba wax.In my opinion, no matter what wax you do go with, the paste carnuba is better than a liquid, harder to apply and remove, but the results are noticably better.Mequires also has a good product, especially the Professional series. |

Zymol can be purchased online at www.emmonscoachworks.com. However, although Zymol does give the richest, most complex shine, it will not last in the rain. I tried Zymol "Creme", and the car was amazing, until the first rain shower, after which it looked and felt unwaxed. Zymol is a concourse wax, and how much rain do those cars see? I live in Oregon (rain capital of the world), so after about a dozen trials, I settled on One Grand Blitz wax plus Omega Glaze by the same company. Automotion sells both, and many have recommended this as the best choice for a daily driver. But if you live in L.A. or Arizona, or some such dry place, I would go with the Zymol.
