Another Vacuum Line Mystery
I pulled my heat exchangers today (12 for 12 with no broken studs thanks to advice on this forum re: oxy-acetylene heating - I never would have thought of this and am sure I'd otherwise have several broken studs - Thanks!!)
Anyway, the point is that I found a broken vacuum line up by the left heater flapper valve that looks like it's been inoperative for a long time. I suspect it has to do with the charcoal canister/vapor recovery system. It's grouped with the fuel lines and starts at a nipple at the rear of the tunnel and goes into the engine compartment on the left corner and then across the back of the engine and..... then I found that the other end was not connected to anything. A PO de-smogged the engine and rearranged a lot of the vacuum lines. I know I don't have any vacuum leaks so perhaps this line was originally teed into the EGR valve or something else. I have two questions: 1. Am I right in thinking that this is part of the vapor recovery system. (I checked all the diagrams in the factory shop manual but they're not that good for identifying lines) and, 2. If it is the vapor system, what are the consequences of not having a vacuum connection to the canister? Should I restore this set up or just ignore it? I sometimes notice a gasoline smell but it's not that consistent. Thanks in advance for your help. Ron
