VW Forums?

I have an opportunity to purchase a 1979 VW Convertible and started looking around the web for VW sites. While there are sites out there I couldn't find anything close in content and information as Pelican for Porsches.

If anyone knows of good sites for bugs please let me know. I'll keep looking.

Mainly, I'd like to know what this car is worth.

check out thesamba.com nothing like pelican in terms of tech info but between those archives and my manuals i could figure out whatever i needed on a 71 super convertable. there is likely better but they never gave me a reason to look.
hope it works out for you. those are fun little cars to bop around in.

Also check out the VW shop talk forums

Here is a link to a few other VW sites

http://www.vwsites.com/classic_beetle.php

Super Beetle Convertibles can be worth any where from $50 to $15,000 depending on condition, rust, originality and how well the fuel injection system is running if it has not been converted to carb.

Floor pans are easy to replace, side support rails and heater channels involve major surgery.

A really nice clean driver in my area goes for about $6,000 to $10,000

Good luck.

Thanks guys! I bought my porsche from this guy and he also has the VW. He needs a place to store it so he's bring to my house to store in my barn. I haven't seen it but he has discribed as follows:

79 convertible, 90k miles, new fender off silver paint, new dash, side boards, bumpers, windshield. Needs a top.
$6,000.00

The guy is as good as they come. When I purchased the Porsche from him, I mentioned I couldn't really afford the car now. He said take the car, pay me as you can and don't stress over it. He handed me the title and said enjoy your new car. All on a hand shake! No bill of sale, liens, etc.

See picture.

Nothing comperable to Pelican. Imagine that. This website is so good and people don't even realize it :)

www.thesamba.com

I buy my Rabbit Cabriolet parts there. (Great little P.O.S. for the wife to tool around in.)

Try www.Cal-look.com most of the people that own VW shops hang out there. You can get any VW question you can think of answered there;)

Try vwvortex.com.

vwvortex.com is probably the equivalent of Pelican for the water cooled stuff. Although there is more and more air cooled guys frequenting there as time goes on.

vw vortex has saved me lots of do$h..

a 79 is a Super Beetle, so hit up www.superbeetlesonly.com. I was over there all the time when I had my 72. They're a great community who will help you with anything you have. Tell 'em Mike from Brooklyn sent you.

VWVortex is really more of a water-cooled site, but they do have a decent air-cooled forum.

If you plan on customizing it, go to www.germanlook.com and you'll see what can be done with what you've got.
