Wheels & tires

Hi all,
I've been kicking around the idea of replacing my 14x5.5 Fuchs. After second thought, I decided to keep the original wheels and just clean them up. However, I'm curious about what the maximum width tire I could put on them? I currently have 185s and it they are a bit on the skinney side in my opinion. I'm thinking 205s are the widest possible for these wheels. Am I correct?

Sincerely,
Brent

Hey Brent,

I decided to keep my 14's and clean them up as well. After extensive research I went with the 205/60 14 (Yoko ES 100). This is the widest tire you'll be able to run. There really isn't alot of options on a 14" wheel. The only problem with this option is the tire has a smaller diameter than stock and throws the speedo off by 7%.

Good luck,

Stew

Hi Stew,
I'm curious as to how you car looks w/ those 205s & your 14s. Do you think you can post a pic or two showing how they fill out the wheel wells?

Sincerely,
Brent

PS. Anyone that is running 205s plus 14x5.5 Fuchs, I'd love to see your car too.

Here's what I've got so far, but my car is still on jacks so you won't see the final stance just yet...I can say (because I had 205's before) that it's lower to the ground than stock and the engine revs out a bit higher than stock. But the look in my opinion is better than a touring tire that is your other option.

I can send a final pic by next weekend...

-Stew

Hi Stew,
I imagine she looks hot w/ the wider wheels. I can't wait to see her sitting down.

Your Fuchs look nice and shiney too. Did you do the polishing yourself? If so, what did you use?

Sincerely,
Brent

PS, Here's a shot of my toy w/ 14x5.5 Fuchs sitting on 185/70s.

I'm sure you could use 215/60-14s ... if you can find any Yoko Avid S/Ts or T4s in that size.

Hey guys,

I didn't check on the 215/60-14, not sure if it's available...I like the way your car sits on the 185/70. It was a tough decision not to go with a stock size tire (I'm trying to keep mine as original as possible). I'm happy with the Yoko though.

The fuchs were cleaned well, polished with rubbing compound (I didn't remove the original clear anodize), roughed up the original black anodize, taped off with electrical tape, and shot with self etching primer then Rustoleum 7777 Black. I finished them with a brand new set of Porsche lugs from eBay (and a soft touch lug socket from our host).

Can't wait to get this thing back on the road...like I said, next weekend.

Hey guys,

Here's the final stance with 14's on 205/60's...I think the wheel and tire fill out the well on my car nicely. And it's a bit lower than stock if you're into that.
