PO's harness install - Fine for DE/AX or unacceptable?

Looks like he used high grade bolts and large fender washers underneath. This is a '72 so there's no factory mounting point on the passenger side.

I agree. I've seen more wrecks at DE's than at true races. Luckily they are usually by themselves and don't envolve anyone else in their mess.

The way it shows on top of the carpet concerns me. If you are mounting through carpet, properly mounted there should be a bushing between the car body and the belt attachment. The angles however are not great. An impact will cause the belt attachments to bend up and could then fracture. It would be much better to have the inboard belt mounted on the side of the tunnel (and stronger, thicker metal) and the outboard belt on the side of the chassis (again, stronger, thicker metal).

If that was my car, I would move them even for street driving.

my bimmer buddy and his son have been track workers for arizona sports racing association for some time. they also have seen some REALLY BAD HIGH SPEED-HI BUCK and MEGA BUCK cars smack the infamous PIR turn 1 and the corner of DOOM -WALL OF BLACK VOODOO TURN 4!!!

TURN 4 will make you SEE GOD IN TECHNICOLOR at SPEED!

be on the SAFE side. not the SUI-CIDE!

Based on the location of those bolts, I hope they are for the lap belt. Don't put them threre for your shoulder belts, you'll break your shoulders if there is a big impact. A lot of ricers put them there for the look and they are really putting themselves in danger.

I ran a 3/16ths x 2" flat bar across the entire bottom of the car and mounted my attachments thru the floor with washers on the cabin side. I actually got the bar over to the bottom of one of the roll bar floor bolts and welded it to the base plate. I didn't much like the floor mounted roll bar, but it didn't hurt that I got some more metal attached to the underside of the thing. I like the sill mounted roll bar better and I'm not real sure I like having any part of the safety harness system tied to the roll bar, but I did on the last car.
