SF Area 911 Inspection needed

Can one of you guys recommend someone that can inspect a crashed/damaged 911 in the San Francisco area? It's a pre- purchase inspection.

Thanks,

Hal

you wouldn't think so, but "SF Area" is pretty huge. Can you narrow it down a bit? Specific city would be best.

This the silver SC?

try these out:

PPI in SFO Area

PPI near Dublin, CA (San Francisco?)

I have not read through these threads, but there is also an entity in this area known as Mobile Works. There is an "East" and a "West" Mobile Works, but either come highly recommended. Basically just to differentiate themselves and their general territory.

These are just the PPI side of things, I don't personally know who to recommend for Pcar body work.

hope that helps.

No PM received.....

You might want to do a search on Mobile Works West. I am not sure but I believe Tom Amon will do PPI's and he can come to you.

My buddy called that guy Gary at Vanguard. That is one wierd dude.

One of the shop guys answered the phone and gave it to Gary. Gary answered the phone with a "Hi". He didn't say his name or the business name. When my buddy asked if this was Gary, he wouldn't say. He said "who want s to know". My buddy gave him his first name and he wanted to know his last name before he'd say his name.

My buddy laughed and said "What diff does it make"?

The dude hung up on him. It's like he thought he was being subpeonaed over the phone.

Needless to say, we won't be doing business with that wack-job.

Hal: I talked to the owner of that car. Its the silver one that looked like he ran it into a tree right? I don't think its running as the tranny is jammed and last I heard, it was impounded by the Redwood City police. I could have my facts wrong here. If you are interested, I can run up the peninsula and check it out for you. Send me a PM if you want me to take a looky.

According to the add, which was posted all over CL but now I don't see it, the ENGINE was running, but the car would not move due to some linkage or tranny issue. Unless you are a mechanic or can do this yourself I wouldn't recommend buying that car despite the low price (<5k) I think the engine had nearly 300k on it without a rebuild, so its not like you could just sell the engine for 5k.

I live in San Mateo, but I don't know where the car is/was -- the CL add was from San Mateo, but I never called. I wouldn't be the guy to critically evaluate this car since I am still learning Porsche's myself.

BTW if you DID need a good 911 expert on the Peninsula, I know Ralph Kirberg at Kirberg Motors - he works on 911's all day long (as well as BMWs) and he owns a 74 911 himself. http://www.kirbergmotors.com/ If you do want a PPI with leakdown and compression he charges about $250.00 tell him Marvin recommended him to you.

Thanks guys. Actually, my buddy is the one that's interested. He and I started tearing mine down and now he wants one. It'll be cheaper for him because he can use parts I pulled off mine. Specifically, the front bumper and stuff.

I'm a mechanic an engineer and he's used to be a body guy, so we can do this car no problem.

In fact, it'll be easier to do 2 at once than a single car, because we can work on the second one while the first is drying or curing or whatever.

Check my blog

http://hals911project.blogspot.com

We're still missing some key tools - notably, my buddy's welder is still at his parent's house out of state.

We also have another friend that manages a hotrod shop and will let us rent his paint booth for cheap.

In fact, we've been thinking about building a few of these cars and selling them. Do you guys think there's a market for RSR replica's, if they're built right - you know, like you guys would do it.

Hal
