A/C romoval....what's involved?

I've had my car for 1 and half years.....never used the AC and don't intend on it. Removing my AC would sure clean up my engine compartment.

What's involved in removing the AC? It looks pretty straight forward to me, I just want to be sure I'm not missing something.

Thanks

Sean

Just start at the compressor(and bracket) and start removing bolts. Piece of cake I deleted mine last year. I would recomend keeping the fan in the evap box. You get lots of fresh air from there. The only thing that is strange is you have to remove the blower resistor to remove the evap box.
You will like the 80lb lightening.

I removed the compresser
Front and rear condensers
All hoses
The thing in the front drivers wheel well
I left the ugly thing in the smugglers box as I thought it was needed in order to retain the fresh air blower from the center vent (not sure about this) and I also left in the gizmo in the front of the trunk.
I decided to leave these two things as they looked difficult to get out and I would have needed to make some patches to cover the holes they would have left.
It's a pretty straight forward process, just make sure there is no refrigerant in the system that can leak out.
Makes access to the engine easier and drops about 50+ poundage.

This wasn't a bad project at all in my 88--took an afternoon to take out. I went ahead and removed everything except for the controls on the center console. I then took some sheet metal and made cover panels to fill the holes left in the front trunk and smuggler's box. The only thing I found semi difficult was getting the cover off the front suspension to remove the hose that ran under it into the smuggler's box. All and all, I am happy with my decision to pull it out but most likely in a few years will replace the components with upgrades and put it back in.

The evap box (inside the smugglers box) is easy to "gut" remove the box, open it up and drop the guts onto the table. reinstall the fan and reinstall it back into the smugglers box, reinstall the blower resistor, and you have fresh air on demand, no duct work required.
I gust used a peiec of sheet metal to block off the hole from the front condensor fan, and put silicone on the screws from the lines and placed them back into the holes in the floorboard and never looked back. Wait till you see the diff. under heavy throttle after taking 35lbs off the RR corner.
