Possibly dumb Q: Heat gun + gas tank = ??
I'm cleaning up the trunk a bit in my 73.5 and want to strip some of the paint/undercoating from the gas tank. Would a heat gun create enough heat to cause a problem with the gasoline and/or fumes? My instincts say it would not be a problem, but then I don't know much about the expansion of gases and that sort of thing.
Thanks. Ken |

i wouldn't want that glowing heater element near any fumes. remove the tank and have it flushed and rinsed with hot, soapy water before doing it.

I tried the heat gun but with no luck
so I used lots of aircraft stripper and a heavy duty scraper. After that got it blasted at a shop. Make sure you remove ALL the coating prior to blasting because the sand will bounce off any remaing rubber coating. check out my tank Finally finished my gas tank!

Well if your name is Fire Marshal Bill then go for it but make sure you are smoking at the same time. If not use a chemical striper

You can do it, but you have to watch the inside of the tank to see if the metal is getting too hot. If it starts going from yellow to like blue, then stop. The best way to check the color is to use a Bic lighter to look down the filler neck...................BOING!!!!!!!!!! gotcha....hee, hee
