Angry Anyone Ever Had a Fuel Leak from the Fuel Tank Screen?

I went out to my garage last night and got a faint whiff of gas. I looked under the front of the car and noticed the bottom of the tank was wet around where the fuel screen is. It didnt appear to be leaking from the back of the tank and running down. I've never heard of the fuel tank screen leaking. I did a search and didn't see anything on the screen leaking either. I just completed a resealing of my engine two months ago. One end of the car stops leaking, and the other starts This really puts a damper on things because I'm getting married saturday and had planned on leaving the wedding and going on our honeymoon in the mountains in the 911. The future wife is not to fond of the P-car right now. I'll tackle the Porsche when I get back and get it on jacks. Could it be the screen seal?

Yes, it could be the aluminum washer seal. But, it could also be the hose or clamp at the screen end. Although the working conditions are tight, you might be able to fix this in a few minutes. depending on how much gas is in the tank.

Congrats on your nupitals. If the bride to be doesn't care too much for the 911, maybe this is not a bad thing. For you, more so, but you're about to enter a world of compromises.

Garage
I had a similar thing with my '79 SC not long after buying it, turned out that the seepage was the tank rotting from within. Not a great story to tell the wife just after buying it.....! To delay the inevitable I drained and removed the tank, left it to vent for a couple of days, cleaned the area thoroughly and soft soldered it to seal it. I did this twice in 3 years before buying a new one because I was concerned about clogging up the fuel system with rust particles.
Good luck

Ian
