Question Can you buy Paint from Porsche?

The PO of my SC gave me a half liter can of paint when I bought the car. It has a Porsche part number on the can and the paint is made by BASF. Should I not have enough to do the job can I buy factory paint from Porsche?

Thanks

Andrew

The stealer normally can supplied you with paint if it a recent model PORSCHE that they still have on the showroom floor.

Older Porsche such as your SC will probably be better off if you can bring it to a automotive paint store and if they can match up the color. Remember you car is over twenty years old and most car color fade with time.

Can the dealer work with the codes on the can I have?
Is there a code for Petrol Blue that is a standard?

Thanks

Andrew

Stealer will just buy it from an automotive paint store and add a markup for you. Remember paint has a limited shelf life and no stealer or factory wharehouse will stock merchandise that will go bad.

Question DAMN How do I know if my paint is bad?

I was hoping to use the little bit I have to paint my foglight buckets and ducktail.

Andrew, just go to your local auto paint store and tell them the year, make and color of your car. The paint codes are not always the same depending on what paint manufacturer you go with. My SC was also petrol blue and I was amazed how much the paint had faded when I bought a quart to do a repaint on my front valance. You're probably best of trying to get the store to match the existing paint rather than the paint code.

It will cost ~$100 in materials to do some fog housings and tail if you buy direct from a paint supply house and paint yourself. Just properly dispose of what was supplied with the car and start with new. I would not trust an "unknown" like your 0.5l of paint when it comes to the finish of the 911.

I'd try to go with the original paint manufacturer. Having a autobody supply shop "read" the paint on your car may not return an exact match to weathered or faded paint. The supply house will take a reading and find the closest color formula from the database of the paint manufacturer(s) they resell. Getting paint to match exactly is more an art than a science.

It was my understanding that Porsche used Glasurit -- which I *think* is now owned by BASF.

I think that all the paint are being produce in CHINA since they have the least restrictive environmental laws and they have low wages.

I know there are H-U-G-E!! differences in quality of paints cause MAACO can paint a car for me for 150.0 for a resale car but the paint that should be used for a REAL car is around 900.00 for paint alone!!!!! Is that the craziest thing youve ever heard or what???? Paint a whole car for 200. or buy good paint for 900.00? This is nutz!! Anybody know of a goods sprayperson around Columbus, Ga??? Help!! Mark
