Hello all,
I'm not sure where to ask this question since I don't think there is an event/calendar thread, but I thought I'd post here since this looks like it has the most traffic. Does anyone know if there is going to be a big celebration in Monterey next year in 2008 for Porsche's 60th anniversary? I missed the big 50th anniversary in 1998 and I'm still "kicking" myself! I'm hoping that they will have something similar for next year. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks. |

Haven't heard a peep, but then that doesn't mean much.
However, I remember when we hit the late 1990s and early 2000s, I was feeling "Anniversary overload." It seemed like there was an anniversary for every Porsche, every year. Wonder if the next "big" one should be the 75th? After all, it'll be kinda hard to top the 50th, and RR III just happened? pete |

Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance generally hates the Porsche marque and it is a rare occasion indeed to find one on the lawn for judging (though you will find them at Laguna Seca and the many ancillary events).

I actually called Laguna Seca this morning. They said the people that organize the Historics are running behind and that they should have had the info out already. They said just wait for the press release.

The 50th was great. I doubt the organizers would support such a disruption again so soon.

I asked an Aussie friend who lives in SF this same question and he was of the opinion Porsche were unlikely to send any significant cars due to their new museum opening about the same time.
Keep me posted ,chaps. Cheers, Dennis.

Yes, I've heard that the 50th was great! I really feel bad about missing it! Hopefully something will happen for their 60th, but judging from this thread and from talking to others.....it doesn't sound very likely.

FWIW - I can't find the article, but I'm fairly sure I saw somewhere in the past week that GM, Lambo and Lancia were going to be the featured marques this year. Perhaps the article was premature and pulled, explaining why I can't find it again.

waiting for info
We've been scouring the website waiting to find out about the featured marque at the Monterey historics for a month now. They usually announce the marque in January. Don't know why they're procrastinating?
Porsche being the marque will determine if we go or not. |

We're travelling from UK and took a look at Laguna Seca but the historic dates don't match our itinerary. Just wondered if any big (or small) events happening July 23 to Aug 11 in California when we're visiting. Cheers

Ok....I just got off the phone with the corporate office of Laguna Seca. They said, "They're doing something different this year. They're celebrating the 35th year of the Historics at Monterey." So no featured marque....just "celebrating 35 years".....
