I'm thinking of removing the fog lights on my SC

Taking them off looks pretty straight forward.
What can be done to cover the holes?
Budget ideas are the best right now.

why?

CRNT918 09-15-2006 06:00 PM

I just used plastic plugs I got at the hardware store.

Cdnone1 09-15-2006 06:11 PM

Left mine open. Plugs weigh too much

I used stainless mesh that matched my oil cooler covering. I have since painted everything behind them black as well as the screens and oil cooler. It looks really good I think. I can take some pics tomorrow if you want to see how it turned out.

Yes please, that would be great

Hi Moke
I junked my fogs earlier this year - they were spotless but useless and I was glad to drop the weight. I started off with holes like this:

I didn't want to take her to Classic Le Mans looking messy though, so I bought some hippy flowers for the front (cheap vinyl) and my daughters helped me put them on:

One Summer of Love later we took the flowers off and just plugged the biggest holes with grommets.

Done properly this is what that looks like - quite tidy.

The plan this winter is to strip a plain jane front valance I have sitting around and paint that up to go on the front, which will tidy things up permanently. I was never 100% on the car with the lights on there, what's the point when they are absolutely useless. I'm glad to be rid of them, plus the money they made on eBay paid for a new pair of front tyres and some Mobil 1!

I wasn't very fond of the fogs on my '88 and they are flush (mostly) with the valance. I'd definitely ditch fogs on an earlier car. The front end looks much cleaner without them, and I've never really found them that useful anyway. Some serious driving lights would be nice at times at night, but even then, I'd have so few opportunities to use them...

No lights, less weight, cleaner lines.

When I still had the stock valence and removed the fogs, I covered the entire area with a piece of cheap hardware-store aluminum sheet pop-riveted in place--one sheet on each side, of course--that was, as I remember, about 3x5 inches on each side. Painted everything and it was far less conspicuous than plugs or small patches..

I'm diggin' the hippie flowers man... Very Goa Trance. (GT)

Would a factory Club Sport valance still be available for purchase ?

I didn't like the fogs on my '76 either so I had them welded shut when my car was painted. I considered just cutting a larger opening and trimming the edge with ordinary door edge guard trim like this Pelican did. I still think it looks great and it is definitely "budget"!

I finally took a picture of all 3 grills painted. I used a different paint for the oil cooler which I am going to use on the light grills. The stuff I used on the light grills is already coming off. Sorry for the poor lighting.

The stuff on the light grilles is coming off? What's goin' on with the hood, man?

Les Paul 09-26-2006 04:59 PM

There is light filrering through a tree above giving it the funky mottled look.

Rick964 09-26-2006 05:52 PM

I used plastic plugs form the hardware store and then painted them with matching paint. Actually I also reprayed the whole valence with 3m rubber rocker panel spray to give it a pebbled texture so it would not show rock chips. I sprayed it right over the plastic plugs after priming and before spraying the silver.
