tranny stuff...

the transmission on my 85 carrera was rebuilt about 700 miles ago. when i first got it back, shifting was quite 'balky' (especially downshifts). it is starting to smooth out now, but i still have a symptom i am wondering about. if i upshift without keeping the rpms high, the lever is very hard to snap into place unless i either force it with great effort or repeat the lever motion into gear a second time... this is most noticable in 3rd and 4th gear. downshifting into 2nd still requires some force unless the rpms are up, too.

also, the mechanic suggested the tranny oil be changed after running the car about 1200 miles, in order to get rid of the inital wear from the new components. there is valvoline in it now; not sure of the weight... 80w maybe???

should i be worried????????? thanks-

I think it is probably a little early to be worried. It is my understanding that deburring the synchro rings can make break-in shifting a bit easier, you might want to inquire as to whether or not that was done to the new synchro rings.

Were any of the synchro hubs replaced during the rebuild?

As far as the gear oil goes, I think this would be an ideal time to drain and replace the Valvoline with SWEPCO 201. I think you will be pleased with the improved shifting 'feel' with the SWEPCO!
