relay for headlites ?
My regular headlights are working but the brites are both out and of course the flash doesn't work when I pull back the stem. Both brite headlamps wuoldn't go out at thre same time , is there a relay or fuse to check, how do you check the bulbs ? 88 911
Thanks Michael |

OK pulled the headlamp and the bulb has both of the filaments intact. the blue light comes on , on the dash but the brites don't. Could it be that the turn indicator brite dim switch is gone or is it possibly a fuse somewhere else ?

Unless major circuit changes were made in '84 for the 'Carrera' update to Motronic, all 911's have 4 individual fuses for the headlamps. Your owner's manual should have the locations for both fuses and relays in it! But, the fact that both high beams DON'T work leads me to believe you have a relay problem ... maybe defective, maybe just corrosion on the socket!
I suggest testing the relay per my instructions (the 911 headlamp relay is NOT a DIN icecube relay, but the contact numbers and testing procedure is the same) in the following thread: http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/Forum3/HTML/001738.html If you can get an assistant to 'watch' the relay while you operate the dimmer switch from low to high, get the assisitant to listen for the clicking of the relay. If it isn't the relay, then the control 'stalk' is suspect! Cleaning the contacts would be the first order of business per the instructions in this earlier thread: http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/Forum3/HTML/001766.html ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa [This message has been edited by Early_S_Man (edited 06-03-2000).] |
