Advance Timing with SSIs / Backdated Exhaust?

Well, I finally got my car all back together today after the old school exhaust install. While I was in there I also set my valves, replaced the heater hoses, fixed my muffler tip, di away with the EGR nonsense etc.

Anyway, the car definately sounds different now than it did with the Thermal Reactors (they were hollow) and it seems to have more top end but it seems weaker in the bottom end which makes sense from less back pressure. I'm thinking about advancing my timing just a bit to give me a bit more in the bottom end. Has anyone else had to do this?

The biggest benefit I've noticed so far is that the heat actually warms up the car. Before, you were lucky to defog the windshield.

Uncle Billy:

911 engines really like specific timing values,....:) One can fudge a bit with these emissions-controlled ones taking fuel octanes into account, but I'd strongly suggest that you limit total advance to 35 degrees.

If you want more bottom end throttle response, then I'd suggest having your distributor recurved with the caveat that you use 92 octane fuel to prevent sub-audible detonation at low & mid RPM. Remember, these CIS engines run too lean to permit much flexibility in this regard.
