Who are the best guys to rebuild my webers?
 

I get some popping at low RPM's from my webers and I figure it wouldn't hurt to have them professionally done. I have seen so many pictures of Webers that looks brand new after their rebuild that I got to thinking that I want that too. My Webers work but could be better and I wouldn't hate if my Porsche started a bit quicker. I didn't find anything of value searching so I am wondering if you guys have any places you can refer me to.

There is an outfit in Gilroy, California, the name escapes me now. I sometime buy weber stuff from them. Do a google on Gilroy, weber carburetors.

Or, you can rebuild it yourself.

I dont think I could rebuild these myself. I have actually never rebuilt a carb and had the car run well when I am done. I think I am gonna let someone do it who can check for shaft air leaks and such.

Eurometrix in Groton, MA. Pacific Fuel Injection in San Francisco. Bieker Engineering in Grants Pass, OR. These are some good possibilities. Since you don't have your location listed, you can choose which is closer, but it's not a problem to box them up & send them off to annyplace. Also, do a search using these names, Weber, etc.

I think Bieker is about $200 or so cheaper than Eurometrix. Bieker did mine last winter for $1000. Excellent service!

Wow! The last time I had Webers rebuilt (including the shafts welded & turned), it cost me around $400 to $450. But that was in the '90s. If I had a decent set that needed rebuilding, I think I would go for a set of new PMO's. If you figure a cost of $1,000 for the rebuild, you could sell the old ones & put maybe $600 with it & get the new PMO's instead of still having the old design of the Webers.

The shop in Gilroy quoted $300 per carb if the throttle shafts need to be replaced with oversize. 8 - 81/2 mm. That was two weeks ago. Re-build costs would be added to that.

So no matter how I look at it this will be $1,000. The throttle shafts are fine and don't leak but I think if I had them rebuild I would get everything. The carbs work amazingly well when warmed up but do still pop every little bit. Perhaps its just a screw adjustment I should look into.
