911 Turbo unable to start

Hi guys.. HELP needed on a 1988 911 turbo (original). Car started up ok in the morning with some UNUSUAL wining sound(louder than normal fuel pumps) Anyway, idling was about 600rpm, much lower than normal, car was fighting to idle sounds like 1/2 the cylinders working. Car would only idle for 5 seconds before stalling again. Unable to get the engine to idle.

I have observed the followings:
1. both fuel pumps are working.
2. Happened to me once but car would be ok after 2 - 3 days, everything else is normal.
3. possibility of faulty fuel accumulator or fuel filter choke up the system causing fuel starvation?
5. Fuel problem or ignition problem? the WUR, 5 seconds delay relay, CDI?
6. could it be the WUR? any symtoms or sound?
7. could smell petrol after several attempts to start the car.

Any inputs will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

When my WUR died the car would crank but never fire. Check to see if there is fuel inside your aircleaner, a bad WUR will push the fuel up through the vent hose.

when the fuel distributor piston is stuck in the bore, and if it's beyond it's normal idle position, the injectors whirr, and of course, spray fuel. the higher the piston, the louder the whirring noise. long shot, but could be.

Thanks guys.. just wondering if there is any way to check the WUR in this case? Unplug one of the fuel lines to check if fuel is coming through? No prior symtoms before the WUR died? Thnaks a lot!

You should be checking the system with the CIS pressure gauges. It gives you a good and pretty accurate direction of where and what the problem is.. down to the component level..
