1980 911 ignition lock assembly

Anyone have experience with the ignition lock assembly?

One more thing to add to my list for this newly acquired car.

My key for the ignition was kind of sticky but still worked. Now it will turn the ignition just before the start mode but will not start the car. Also when turning switch off the power does not go off.

Something appears to be stuck.

Is it possible to remove assembly and clean?

How do you remove the assembly? I have the steering wheel off but thats where I'm stumped.

I think new ignitions run about $500.00 so thats last resort.

Any thoughts....?

I got that problem last month. I changed the mechanical part of the switch...Check on the used parts for sale section of our host BBS if you need one...I found mine there.

ignition switch issue..Please HELP.

the electrical part of the switch attaches to the front of the mechanical part and is turned by a tit sticking out of the mechanical switch. the tit breaks off, requiring a new steering lock assembly. remove the whole unit, pull the switch off of it, and see if that's the problem.

the tab from the key side was broken into the electrical side.
The car starts with a screw driver.
Now what?

got the ignition switch out. Its definately broken.

Looking for a used one with key.

Anyone have one?
