Possible to reconnect oil level sender?

Is it possible to reconnect the wiring/terminals on the oil level sender in the tank without dropping said tank?

My guage was reading zero - now it's pegged at the top. I wiggles what I could see of the wires in between the readings. Do I have to drop the tank?

BTW - to further complicate things, it's a 1972.

Anyone?

I don't understand your question really, but under any possible interpretation, I think the answer is yes for a non-72...

i.e. even if you need to remove the whole sender, just drain the tank

Can you access the sender on your '72?

Yes if you have 8 inch long fingers but only 4mm thick, otherwise you need to drop it. the sender is on the back side of the tank with little clearence between the inner wing. Dropping it is 30 minutes job 4 pipe connections and one screw for the bracket.

Thanks for the responses - I was afraid I'd have to drop it - maybe I'll wait till the next oil change.

If its not been dropped recently the 72 oil tank is worth dropping, very hard to come by if you need one and been under the wheel arch its prone to corrosion, good time to give it a paint.

I was able to loosen the strap on mine and go in with needle-nose pliers. But mine isn't in a stock fender.

Are you kidding Jack? If this was BB, you could probably get both hands in there along WITH the monster tire!
