1980 SC rear wheel bearing, need help
I wanted to replace a noisey rear bearing today but I am stuck. Every thing went as planned but I couldn't get the hub to pull out. I evn broke my slide hammer adapter banging on it. Des any one have any suggestions as to how to getthe hub out so I can replease the bearing?
Thanks Bernie |

You have to press the hub + 1/2 inner bearing race using a special tool that consists of a threaded rod, cup, pusher, and nut. You can buy it from various places. Many have reported success with a homemade version with parts from Home Depot (do a search). After that, carefully cut the 1/2 inner race off the hub with a dremel tool.
During reassembly, make sure you have the ebrake assembly and any other parts that go behind the hub in place BEFORE pressing the hub into the new bearing using the same special tool. Don't ask how I know this.

Here is a good article from a pca member:
http://vista.pca.org/sch/tech_articles/rear_bearing_911/911_wheel_bearing.htm The tools you need are the spreader and this tool: ![]() I have bought it back then and it works great. It is very important to carefully install the bearing! Frank

the "tool" doesn't remove the hub. it just deals with the bearing R+R. i've had good luck using a pair of looong prybars, placed under each side of the flange with the tips against the retainer bolt heads. pull firmly and hard and it usually pops out and hits the floor. don't pull the car onto yourself if it's on jackstands!
