Need Mid-Project DIY help
 

I’m about to install injection manifold gaskets and insulators and I see that one side of the gasket is shiny, darker green and has trademark letters on it, and the other side is softer, lighter in color, coarser and plain. Which side should face the plastic insulator, which side should face the the head and which side the intake manifold?

With my new Bilstien inserts there is a small rubber o-ring seal at the top, and I can’t determine if it goes inside the dust cap or outside, which would be between the cap and the shock tower. The installation instructions are sparse.

I tried freezing my spindles and warming my new seal races in the oven, but still can’t get them the last 1/8” on by tapping around the outside with a piece of wood. Any ideas? PVC pipe?

At least the new head temp sensor and oil pressure switch are in, with a new breather gasket, thermostat o-ring and new engine compartment fuel lines.

Wheel bearings? Make sure you install the race in the hub, not the spindle. Freeze the bearing race. To install, heat the hub. Apply a thin film of antiseize to the race, then install with a driver or equivalent. It might take more than a tap to seat the race. Use a wood block if the race goes in evenly. Instead of a BFH, try a dead blow hammer.

Thanks, Sherwood, for the tip on the hub bearing races, but I'm talking about the seal race, AKA the "spacer". It's the second thing to go on the naked spindle after a little o-ring seal.
